The Indian Army has a regimental system, but is operationally and geographically divided into seven commands, with the basic field formation being a division. It is an all-volunteer force and comprises more than 80% of the country's active defence personnel. It is the 2nd largest standing army in the world, with 1,237,117 active troops and 960,000 reserve troops.[The army has embarked on an infantry modernisation program known as Futuristic Infantry Soldier As a System (F-INSAS), and is also upgrading and acquiring new assets for its armoured, artillery and aviation branches.

Steps for applying

Instructions for Online Applications for all Entries

  • Please fill all details mentioned in the online application form , failing which the application is liable to be rejected.

  • After submitting online application, candidates are required to obtain two copies of the application printout. One copy of the print out application duly singed and affixed photograph attested by Gazetted Officer thereon and 10th class certificate, 12thcertificate, Degree/Provisional Degree and marksheets of eight semesters of B.E/B.Tech, all in original alongwith two attested photocopies of all the above certificates are to be carried out to the Selection Centre by the candidate. Original certificates will be returned to the candidate after verification by the Selection Centre.

  • The second copy of the print out of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his/her reference.

  • NO NEED TO SEND ANY HARDCOPY TO DG RTG/RTG DTE.

  • Candidature of a candidate will be cancelled under following circumstances:

    • If candidate does not carry the copy of online application & said documents to the Selection Centre for interview.

    • Applying second time on line will also lead to cancellation of candidature for same entry.

    • Any incorrect details filled in online applications will lead to cancellation of candidature and suitable action will be taken against the candidate.

  • It may be noted that depending upon the total number of applications received by this office for 10+2 TES Course/Technical Graduate Course(TGC) /Short Service Commission Technical(SSC Tech) Men & Short Service Commission Technical(SSC Tech) Women, Recruiting Directorate reserves the right to shortlist and to fix cut off percentage of PCM marks for SSB interview. No representation will be entertained in this aspect.

  • Call up for SSB tests will be sent to you by SMS/post and dates will also be hosted on the website. Original and attested copies certificates will be brought to the Selection Centers as per the call up instructions.

  • For Candidates of TGC/SSC(T)/SSCW(T) Only For candidates in final year, a copy of the certificate from the Principal of the College/University on Official College Stationery as under is required to be enclosed:-


  • "It is certified that ______________________ s/o/d/o ______________ is a bonafide student of our college presently in the final year of _________________ (Degree programme name) with __________________ (Branch/subjects of study) and the final exams are likely to be held in __________________ (month and year). His date of birth as per college records is _____________.

    The College is affiliated to _______________ (University) which is a recognized institution under the UGC Act for the designated programmes".

  • TGC candidates applying for Army Education Corps & Military farms are not permitted to apply online. They are advised to download " Common Application Form” given in downloads on the Website and forward it duly filled by post to the address mentioned in the advertisement. Military Farm candidates to forward the application directly to RVC as per the address given in the advertisement published.

Medical Examination

Medical Examination Procedure of the Recommended Candidates at Selection Centres

General

Recommended candidates appear before the medical board for carrying out their medical board after the SSB results. It takes 4 to 5 days time for the concerned Military Hospital to complete the medical board and after that the candidates are dispersed. NDA candidates are examined both for Army and Navy unless otherwise instructed and endorsement of fitness status will be made accordingly. President of the medical board will guide the candidates for Appeal/Review Medical Board procedures. Candidates may seek the advice of President Special Medical Board for review/appeal in case they have been declared unfit.

Procedure of Appeal Medical Board

The Appeal Medical Board will be held at one of the following hospitals :-

  • Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt.

  • Command Hospital, Southern Command, Pune.

  • Command Hospital, Eastern Command, Kolkata.

  • Command Hospital, Central Command, Lucknow.

  • Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandimandir.

  • Command Hospital, Air Force, Bangalore.

  • Command Hospital, Northern Command, C/o 56 APO.

  • INHS, Ashvini, Mumbai.

The candidates will report for medical examination within the stipulated period i.e., 42 days from the date last examined by the Special Medical Board for re-examination along with the receipted copy of the MRO/TR as directed by the President Medical Board. The endeavour will be to complete the Medical Board in one day.

Review Medical Board

In case of candidate being declared unfit by the Appeal Medical Board, he/she may challenge the proceedings and may be granted review of medical proceedings based on the merit of the case. Any candidate desiring for a review should address the request to Recruiting Directorate (Personnel & Coord), Army Headquarters, West Block III, RK Puram, New Delhi with a copy to the President of Appeal Medical Board within one day of the holding of Appeal Medical Board. The application for RMB are routed through DG AFMS. The decision for grant of RMB is with DG AFMS, and is not a matter of right. RMBs are conducted at R&R Hospital Delhi Cantt and AFMC, Pune.

Stay During the Medical Examination

The recommended candidates after the declaration of SSB results will stay in the Selection Centres in the lines earmarked for the recommended candidates for their medical examination by the Military Hospital. The candidates will be allotted fresh medical chest numbers for the purpose.

Candidates who go for Appeal Medical Board or have to get their medical examination done at a later date due to some unavoidable reasons will do so under their own arrangements.

Discipline during Medical Examination

It is utmost important that recommended candidates maintain proper discipline during their stay in Selection Centres during their conduct of medical examination. The candidates are required to put on their medical Chest Number (with Red Cross) whenever they are present in the campus of Selection Centres.
